Big Cypress National Preserve Oasis Visitor Center
Activity description
Big Cypress National Preserve spans 730,000 acres of untamed wilderness, located just north of the Everglades. Home to panthers, herons, cypress glens, sawgrass plains and the elusive ghost orchid, Big Cypress became one of the first national preserves in 1974. Twelve campgrounds and hiking opportunities along the Florida National Scenic Trail attract over 3 million visitors every year. The preserve offers ranger-led excursions including swamp walks, kayaking, hiking and a Night-Sky program. In 2016, Big Cypress National Preserve was designated as the first International Dark Sky Park, for its dedication to protecting its night skies from artificial light pollution.
